When the brain injury seen in brain tumours causes epilepsy, the resulting condition can be difficult to manage, one expert maintains.
Helen Bullbeck, director of brainstrust, said that late-onset epilepsy is often caused by a brain tumour due to the irritation the brain injury causes.
She continued that often it is the responsibility of the patients to manage the condition and retain the information given to them by various medical professionals, as often different doctors do not converse with each other.
According to the expert, the condition can be "very, very complex and difficult to manage".
"You're put on medication to control the seizures - that can take a long, long time to get right and, on top of that, you have other symptoms caused by the brain tumour like headaches and nausea - things like that," explained Ms Bullbeck.
In other news, research published in Cancer research revealed that brain cancer therapy could be more effective if the expression of an iron-storing protein is reduced.
This would increase the sensitivity of the cancer cells to drugs, thereby improving their performance.
