A Staffordshire police officer sustained a skull fracture following an incident in Burton-on-Trent last month.
The policeman was struck by a male who was causing a disturbance in the town centre on June 18th and received treatment for his injuries at Queen's Hospital in Burton, where his condition was stabilised.
A 37-year-old man was arrested a short distance away from the other officers, while West Midlands Ambulance paramedics gave emergency treatment to the officer, who has eight years of service with the police force.
Speaking last month, chief superintendent Jon Drake explained: "The injured officer sustained a very serious injury whilst trying to keep members of our community safe.
"Thankfully the initial reports from the hospital are that he is recovering well from the incident."
The importance of rehabilitation following a head or brain injury was recently underlined by the doctor of congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who suffered a brain injury during a shooting in the US.
