The doctor of congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who suffered a brain injury in a shooting, has highlighted the importance of rehabilitation in brain injury patients.
Dr Gerard Francisco said that Giffords has made an ideal recovery which is "typical for those who have the ability and access to the right resources," reports the Cronkite News.
He said that unfortunately, the sort of help that Giffords received is not yet available to everyone.
It would not be fair to the congresswoman to predict when she will be able to return to her job, added the doctor, commenting that they would have a better idea in a year or so.
Francisco also praised the congresswoman for her recovery, saying: “She's a hard worker, that’s one of the reasons that she's accomplished so much in those four months."
This comes after Giffords acquired a brain injury during a shooting at a Congress on Your Corner event which left six people dead and nineteen injured.
Jared Loughner, 22, was charged with the shooting.
