Individuals must realise that traumatic brain injury can happen to anyone and that they need to take care to avoid such an event, one expert has said.
Luke Griggs, spokesman for brain injury experts Headway, has said that people must drop the "it will never happen to me" attitude in order to lessen their risk of acquiring a traumatic brain injury.
"Approximately half of deaths in people under the age of 40 in the UK are due to head injury, with in excess of half a million people of working age living with the effects of a traumatic brain injury," he said.
This comes after Jason Mihalik of the University of North Carolina told the NCAA that American football players should adopt safe tackling techniques in order to avoid brain injury while on the field.
He explained that by becoming more aware of where they are on the field in relation to their opponents, players will be able to brace for collisions.
