Man suffers brain injury after being tased by police

An Ohio man suffered traumatic brain injury after being shot by a police stun gun, reports say.

The mother of Matthew Hook filed a complaint against Perry Township Police Department after officers used a taser gun on her son when he attempted to climb an eight foot fence behind a sporting goods store.

According to his mother, this caused him to fall on his head, which resulted in serious brain damage.

Police maintain that Hook had stolen an SUV and was trying to escape from officers, failing to halt when asked.

According the The Columbus Dispatch, Alphonse Gerhardstein, representing Hook, said: "Officers know better than to Tase a nonviolent person who is standing on a fence."

This comes after a 30-year-old man received £5.7 million in compensation for a brain injury he suffered during his birth.
