Future without rehab uncertain for brain injured man

A US man that suffered brain injury following the removal of a tumour faces an uncertain future without rehabilitation.

Steve Whitehill struggles to perform even the most basic tasks after a brain tumour left him having to relearn simple everyday things, such as socialising or even taking out the rubbish, reports the Mercury News.

Speaking to the newspaper, non-profit organisation Services for Brain Injury's (SBI) Caroline Welsh explained that without the proper treatment, it is not clear that he will get better.

She noted: "Steve has come a long way since his tumor was removed but has more to learn.

"If he can restart daily rehabilitation at SBI, his ability to be independent - and possibly return to a productive life - is quite promising."

Last month, research published in the journal Nature suggested that aggressive brain tumours may be harder to treat because of their ability to produce their own blood vessels.
