New warnings of mobile phone brain cancer link

Using a mobile phone could cause serious brain injury, a new book warns.

Epidemiologist Devra Davis has published a book about the danger of radiation from mobile phones causing illnesses such as brain cancer.

These words of caution stem from research that found small print that accompanies some mobile phone contracts that states users should keep the handset a safe distance from their head.

According to Ms Davis, Apple advises customers to keep the iPhone five-eighths of an inch from their head while Research in Motion, who manufacture the Blackberry, recommend a whole inch between phone and ear.

Worryingly, these warnings are hidden in the small print and so could be missed by many consumers.

Ms Davis, who has worked for the University of Pittsburgh in the past, says that although cancer levels in general have not increased in the US with the introduction of the mobile phone, they have risen among young people.
