US congressman 'recovered from brain injury'

A US congressman is completely recovered from a brain injury that required surgery six months ago, it has been reported.

Republican Dave Reichert for Washington got the all clear from a doctor, who told the congressman that no abnormalities of the brain were found during surgery and that the procedure was a success, the Seattle Times has reported.

"You have received close follow up and completed an uneventful recovery and your symptoms resolved completely," wrote Dr Brain Monahan.

His health had become a topic of conversation after Democrat congressman Jay Winslee, also of Washington, approached Mr Reichert on the floor of the house to ask if he was alright.

Mr Reichert had suffered a subdural haematoma, which is a build-up of blood on the brain.

This haemorrhage is a form of traumatic brain injury that is often life-threatening when acute, though a chronic version is normally not fatal when got to in time.
