An army officer responsible for overseeing the treatment of US soldiers recovering from brain injury has been forced to step down, it is reported.
Colonel Robert Saum has been moved from the Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury until an investigation into his management has been conducted, the Associated Press (AP) reports.
According to a separate AP report, Col Saum is facing allegations of "making unwanted sexual advances and creating a hostile work environment".
Democrat congresswoman Susan Davis told AP that Col Saum's umbrella organisation has not lived up to expectations.
"The Defense Center of Excellence, while having achieved some notable small-scale successes, has not inspired great confidence or enthusiasm thus far," she said.
A recent study from Arrowhead suggested that brain injury may be ten times more prevalent than spinal cord injury, with as much as 83 per cent of troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan having suffered some form of head trauma.
