There is a need for a rehabilitation unit for brain injury patients to be set up in Bradford, it has been claimed.
Campaigners want to see a facility to offer better treatment to people who have suffered a brain injury, as currently patients are transferred to Leeds General Infirmary, the Bradford Telegraph and Argus reports.
A petition with 680 names has been delivered by brain injury charity Headway to Bradford Council, which is to consider the application at a meeting this week.
Earlier intervention and wards for patients with acquired brain injury, as well as improved day and respite care are also being called for the group.
The newspaper indicates that costs and potential demand for a rehabilitation unit are being looked at.
Headway Bradford is part of a network of local groups and branches throughout the UK that offer a range of services for brain injury sufferers including rehabilitation programmes, carer support, social reintegration, community outreach and respite care.
