There's Hope for brain injury patients

A man who suffered a serious brain injury has spoken of his "remarkable" recovery and how he plans to set up a charity in honour of the doctor who saved his life.

Tony Steel wants to establish The Hope Trust, a respite centre for brain injury patients in Tenerife, This Is Nottingham reports.

Mr Steel's life changed forever when he suffered a severe brain injury when he fell down a flight of stairs eight years ago.

Now, in honour of the surgeon who saved him, Dr Terence Hope, he plans to help others who have endured a traumatic brain injury like his.

Mr Steel had a part of his brain the size of a 50p coin removed, he told the news provider.

Since the accident he has received support from the Nottingham-based charity Headway, which he visits regularly.

"I thought I was in a bad way but I was walking and talking. I thought how lucky I am," he said.

Headway began life in 1979 and moved to its Nottingham home in 1985.
