Welsh brain injury centre expansion will complement existing services

A brain injury unit in Colwyn Bay in North Wales will complement services already available in Walton, offering long-term treatment to patients.

Speaking to the Denbigh Visitor, North Wales Brain Injury Service head of service Dr Rudi Coetzer explained that people who attend the treatment centre will receive a much more specialised service owing to planned improvements.

Dr Coetzer told the newspaper: "It's been a long process but should be happening in next few years.

"Some services might offer 12 weeks of standard treatment and you're gone. That isn't the case here. It's a long-term process."

The centre, which has strong links with Bangor University, offers a range of services including occupational therapy, neuropsychology, speech and language therapy.

Referrals from GPs and consultants on the NHS are also accepted at the centre for treatment.
