A specialist in brain injuries has voiced his concern about tackles in high-impact sports, it has been reported.
Dr Richard Parkinson studies ailments which can occur during rugby and stated he is worried about body-checks leading to head traumas, the Sydney Morning Herald relayed.
These types of clashes see players launch themselves at opponents without the use of their arms.
Dr Parkinson discussed how blows to the side of the temple can be more likely to lead to a loss of consciousness compared to whacks to the front, adding outlawing dangerous challenges may be necessary.
"The velocity of some of these collisions does worry me," he told the news provider. "You see in games where a defender tenses up and launches his whole body at his opponent."
Over in the US, three National Football League players recently agreed to donate tissue to the Boston University School of Medicine upon their death, to help scientists better understand links between brain injuries and high-impact sports.
