School boy's skull fractured in road accident

An American school is holding a blood donation event later this week in honour of a student who suffered a fractured skull and other injuries when he was hit by a car over the summer.

Mike Telemeco, the principal at Fountain Rock Elementary School, told The Herald-Mail that the student, David Greeley, is undergoing rehabilitation at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore.

The boy was riding his bicycle when he was hit by a car on August 27th and suffered a skull fracture, facial fractures, a broken left arm and an open fracture below his right knee.

He also had to have his left leg amputated at mid-shin, according to the newspaper.

Mr Telemeco told the newspaper that he hopes to get at least 55 people to come and donate blood at the "blood drive" this Friday (November 6th).

According to St John Ambulance, with skull fracture there is a risk that the brain may be damaged either directly by fractured bone from the skull or by bleeding inside the skull.
