Kinetic Muscles, an innovative developer of stroke rehabilitation products, has announced the commercial launch of the Foot Mentor Pro, which helps stoke survivors recover from 'foot drop' and regain proper muscular control of the foot and ankle.
Foot drop is a partial leg paralysis, caused by brain injury from stroke, traumatic brain injury and other conditions, that prevents the foot from lifting and flexing, causing instability and preventing patients from walking.
Figures from the American Heart and Stroke Association, about 36 per cent of stroke survivors suffer lasting impairment of their feet and legs.
According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), the prognosis for foot drop depends on the cause.
It said that foot drop caused by trauma or nerve damage usually shows partial or even complete recovery. For progressive neurological disorders, foot drop will be a symptom that is likely to continue as a lifelong disability, but it will not shorten life expectancy.
