A brain injury treatment unit in north Wales is set to be expanded, it is revealed.
Dr Rudi Coetzer, head of service at the North Wales Brain Injury Service in Colwyn Bay, said improvements will be implemented at the facility following a review of neurological provision in Wales, reports the Denbighshire Visitor.
Under the plans, the centre will deliver more services in the key areas of neurology, neurophysiology, neurological imaging, critical care, rehabilitation and spinal surgery, as well as improvements in care for stroke patients.
Dr Coetzer told the newspaper: "We are lucky here - we're completely funded by the NHS, and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is probably one of the very few in the UK that provides such a comprehensively staffed brain injury unit."
He added that while some other units may offer 12 weeks of treatment, the North Wales Brain Injury Service provides patients with long-term care.
Meanwhile, Worcester News has reported that the NHS is conducting a review of funding for the Acquired Brain Injury Unit in Evesham, at a time when the centre is looking to plug a £45,000 gap in its budget.
