A man in Wales who is recovering from a brain injury has said there is a shortage of neuro-psychologists in the UK.
Darren Geary sustained brain injury when he was attacked seven years ago. Since then he has learned to read and write again but he still suffers from problems associated with brain injury, the South Wales Argus reported.
According to the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust, brain injury, such as that sustained by Mr Geary, can affect movement and vision and can have an impact on cognitive skills and memory.
Doctors recommended Mr Geary see a neuro-psychologist, as he was also suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, however, the specialist in his area had retired and the national shortage of this type of psychologist has left Mr Geary, 40, fearing he may not get the help he requires, according to the newspaper.
Speaking to the newspaper, Mr Geary said: "I'm waiting to hear if I can see anyone in Cardiff, but if that isn't possible, I'm stuck. It's ridiculous."
