MP to act over Eversham brain injury unit closure

Outrage at the proposed closure of an acquired brain injury unit has prompted one local MP to take further action.

Peter Luff is so outraged at the closure of the unit in South Worcestershire College in Eversham that he is set to challenge the education minister Ed Balls to save it, reports the Eversham Journal.

Speaking to the newspaper, the MP said: "I have seen the work of the centre myself and it is some of the most moving stuff I have ever seen in my life as a constituency MP."

The closure is due to national government funding cuts, which have led the college to consider job culls to meet new budget plans.

Speaking to the BBC earlier this month, Acquired Asphasia Trust chairman Ray Phillips explained that the closure will leave students with nowhere else to go.

He underlined the commitment of the organisation, which runs the centre, to fight the closure.
