A Durham man is training hard to take part in the Albert Bartlett Edinburgh Marathon in May, to raise funds to support the charity looking after his son.
Ian's son Carl was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis just two years ago, reports Nafferton Today, and is cared for at the Sue Ryder Care's Holme Hall.
Speaking to the newspaper about his son's progress under the charity's care, he said: "Recreational therapy is an important part of the care provided by Sue Ryder Care.
"This enables residents to enjoy day trips out and activities such as art workshops, singers and even Wii Sports, giving them chance to get back their confidence and independence."
His comments follow the publication of research by scientists from the University of Illinois, which suggested patients with Multiple Sclerosis that are fit are likely to be better protected against further brain injury than those that are less healthy.
