A doctor who suffered a brain injury has described himself as "lucky" after learning to appreciate what he can still do.
Garnet Cummings, an emergency room doctor, has rebuilt his life following an accident in which a lorry crashed into his car after it had run a red light, according to the Edmonton Journal.
He told the newspaper that although he is unable to work as a frontline doctor or run marathons because of the brain injury he suffered, there is still plenty that he can do.
He said: "I quit focusing on the stuff I couldn't do and started to embrace the things I can do.
"I just happen to be lucky that I can still do a lot of stuff."
Many people who suffer brain injuries are able to carry on with certain tasks such as driving, according to the charity Headway.
However, despite often being extremely keen to get back to the wheel, there are certain legal requirements that brain injury patients must meet first.
