A couple in Norfolk have thanked their local community for raising funds for their frequent visits to hospital to see their son, who sustained brain injury during a car accident.
David and Beverley Greenhall's 17-year-old son Christopher was in a car accident on September 5th and went originally to Lynn's Queen Elizabeth Hospital before being rushed to Addenbrooke's Hospital at Cambridge, around 40 miles from the couple's home in Churchfields, Crimplesham.
The teenager had a bleed on his brain, was placed on a ventilator and put in critical care, Lynn News reported.
"He was in Addenbrooke's just under four weeks in total," said Mrs Greenhall.
According to Lynn News, the village's playing field committee organised a car boot sale and the parish council also helped to raise funds for the Greenhall's frequent trips to and from the hospital.
Speaking to the newspaper, Mr Greenhall said: "We can't thank them enough. Community spirit is not dying, it is alive and well in Crimplesham."
According to the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust, brain injury can occur through road traffic accidents, assaults or falls (often called traumatic brain injuries) or by having an illness such as encephalitis, brain haemorrhages/strokes (also called cerebrovascular accidents CVA) or a brain tumour.
