Children with acquired brain injuries are to benefit from a new dedicated service that is to be launched in the UK.
The Acquired Brain Injury Service for young people is a new residential rehabilitation unit opening in November that will help with the recovery of adolescents with acquired brain injury.
St Andrews Healthcare hopes the service will assist children with the emotional difficulties and challenging behaviour, in addition to the physical problems associated with acquired brain injuries.
The mental health charity is working alongside the Child Brain Injury Trust to raise awareness of the precautions that can be taken to avoid accidents.
Lisa Turan, chief executive officer of the Child Brain Injury Trust, said: "It is vital that young people receive the right rehabilitation after brain injury and there is an acute shortage of facilities in this country."
The organisations state that in the UK every hour a child will acquire a brain injury.
