Skiers have been urged to think about their safety and wear a helmet to avoid traumatic brain injury, it has been reported.
Benjamin Mitchell, a ten-year-old who was struck down by a "devastating" frontal lobe condition after an accident on the piste, gave the suggestion in an interview with the Spectrum.
His mother Kari told the news provider of her regret at not forcing the youngster to wear the protective gear, especially as he does so when pedalling on his bicycle.
She recalled the "terrible" phone conversation she had from the child's grandmother after the tumble on the slope.
Discussing his condition, which has left him with memory issues, Benjamin said although he perceived it as "not cool" to wear a helmet, he "definitely" would in future.
His comments come in the wake of remarks by an Olympic skier who suffered a brain injury.
Dave Irwin told the Globe and Mail that parents should lead by example when it comes to safety on the snow, including wearing protective head gear.
