A man who suffered a brain injury has cited the support of his family and friends as a key reason for his recovery.
Laurie McGinty was struck down with viral encephalitis a decade ago, leaving him with a head trauma, the East Kilbride News relayed.
Now 18-years-old, he told the website he feels lucky to be alive after undergoing treatment and rehabilitation.
The youngster is now planning to hit the books at Glasgow Caledonian University as he studies on a Sports and Active Lifestyle Promotion degree course.
He has also been selected to play for Scotland's Cerebral Palsy football team at the upcoming World Cup, something he told the news provider has given him immense pride.
"Without the work of the surgeons and the fantastic support from my family and friends I wouldn't be here, getting ready to play," he said.
He got involved with the squad after a recommendation from the Child Brain Injury Trust last year and thinks the outfit's chances of success are "pretty good".
