A former brain injury patient has defied doctors' predictions that he would never walk again to complete a gruelling sporting challenge.
Cyclist Adrian Bloor suffered a head trauma after falling off his bike three years ago and going through four haemorrhages.
The Sheffield man fell into a three-week coma as a result and was cared for by staff at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, who told him he was unlikely to ever stand on his own two feet again.
Mr Bloor has since completed an Ironman event in Germany, a triathlon which involves taking to two wheels as well as running and swimming.
He said the determination to raise cash for those who looked after him pushed him towards the finishing line.
"Just three years ago doctors said I might never walk again, so I wanted to convince myself that I had completely recovered," he added.
Darrell Ankarlo, another brain injury sufferer, has also recently revealed details of his recovery.
The US disc jockey returned to the KTAR station following successful rehabilitation after a car accident.
