People who have experienced brain injuries can be helped in their recovery by wearing a special pair of spectacles, it is claimed.
Dr Debby Feinberg, an optical specialist based in Birmingham, Michigan, says she has helped hundreds of brain injury patients with the glasses, wxyz.com reports.
In many cases, according to Dr Feinberg, patients' brains are failing to coordinate the images from their two eyes, resulting in feelings of nausea, dizziness and headaches.
By incorporating a small prism into the eyewear, she states that patients are given a more normal view of the world.
"They begin to actually feel calmer and relieved and less dizzy less headachy, less neck ache. I track all those symptoms, including light sensitivity, and within that first visit they feel at least 50 per cent better," she told the news provider.
Another expert from the US has spoken about the dangers of brain injuries going undiagnosed because they are not always apparent to observers.
CBSSports.com reported that Dr Dawn Comstock, associate professor at Ohio State University, said a culture of machismo and a lack of awareness among coaches mean this can be a serious problem in college sport.
