Brain injury football tournament to take place in Scotland

A new event for footballers who have suffered brain injuries is being launched in Scotland.

Former Celtic striker Darren Jackson is an ambassador for the CPISRA (Cerebral Palsy International Sports and Recreation Association) European Championships, which will take place at Glasgow's Toryglen complex in August, reports the Scotsman newspaper.

Those who have experienced a brain injury, stroke or cerebral palsy can apply to take part in the event.

The Scottish Football Association has tasked Jackson with the job of publicising the fact that people who have experienced brain injuries can still take part in sport and get on with their lives.

Jackson himself is testament to that fact, as he returned to top-level action despite the fact he was diagnosed with hydrocephalus shortly after signing for Celtic in 1997.

CPISRA is an organisation which aims to broaden the sports and recreational opportunities available to people who live with cerebral palsy or a related neurological condition.
