Brain injury charity set for new headquarters

A brain injury charity looks set to be boosted by moving to a new headquarters.

West Suffolk Headway has been based at a temporary home for the past three years but is hopeful of moving to the Northgate Street Business Park in Bury St Edmunds, Bury Free Press reports.

The charity is aiming to move to the former Winchmore Kitchen Studios site by the end of April or early-May.

A grant of £25,000 from the St Edmund's Trust is going towards the cost of converting the building into a new day centre.

Commenting on the move, the charity's general manager David Taylor said: "I think it is going to be an exciting development opportunity and a real chance to take forward the service for people with an acquired brain injury."

Brain injuries have been in the news headlines recently after it was reported that a man in a vegetative state was able to "communicate" with researchers through brain scans.

The 29-year-old Belgian man was apparently able to answer "yes" or "no" to simple questions put to him by Cambridge University scientists, who gleaned his responses by analysing the activity of his brain.
