A specialist centre in Evesham, Worcestershire, that supports people who have suffered brain injuries may be forced to close, it is feared.
The future of the Acquired Brain Injury Unit on Davies Road is in doubt after significant cuts in government funding, the Evesham Journal reports.
A £200 million reduction in adult learning budgets is said to have been implemented at the centre, which means that its owner - South Worcestershire College - will have to cut its adult learning spend by 25 per cent.
The unit supports the educational needs of people who have experienced traumatic brain injuries or strokes.
College principal Michael O'Brien told the newspaper that the loss of such a "high quality" training provision would be a "devastating" blow to the local community.
"We, along with other colleges around the country, will be fighting to overturn this funding decision," he added.
The Acquired Brain Injury Unit was established at the college in 1984 and it is one of the mayor of Evesham's nominated charities for 2009/10.
