A woman who sustained a brain injury while on a bike ride has written a book about her recovery and hopes that her story will inspire others with similar injuries.
Earlene "Kitty" Ahlquist Chadbourne's book, titled Parenting Myself: Recovery From Traumatic Brain Injury, is based on her diaries and details the accident she was involved in in 1990 and the recovery process she has undergone since.
A special website created for the book details some tips for dealing with traumatic brain injury, including "Rest when needed, and don't feel guilty about it."
Ms Ahlquist Chadbourne has a number of readings and signings scheduled in America over the coming months including one at the Mental Health Conference for returning veterans, but those in the UK interested in getting hold of a copy of the book can buy it on the internet.
Neuroscientists at Massachusetts Institute of Technology recently announced that they are studying a possible treatment for brain injury, which involves using different colours of light to shut down harmful brain activity.
