A man with a brain injury has completed a four hour exercise challenge in order to raise money for troops in Afghanistan.
Stephen Costello, from Maidenhead, raised £355 by completing the equivalent of 61 miles on a special exercise bike at the Headway Thames Valley centre in Henley, Oxfordshire, the Henley Standard reported.
Headway is a charity set up to give help and support to people affected by brain injury. There are a network of local groups and branches throughout the UK and Channel Islands offering a wide range of services, including rehabilitation programmes, carer support, social re-integration, community outreach and respite care.
The 51-year-old was injured in a car accident at the age of four and he receives support from the Henley centre several times a week.
Speaking to the newspaper, Wendy Carlson, who works for the charity, said: "The Afghanistan idea was Stephen's initiative and he organised all the sponsorship, which is a particular achievement as loss of confidence is one of the things people with brain injuries can suffer."
The newspaper reported that half of the money will go the armed forces and the rest will be spent on Nintendo DS Brain Training games for the centre.
