Brain injured man dedicates life to helping Headway charity

A man who sustained a brain injury 20 years ago after getting behind the wheel of a car when drunk has dedicated his life to helping brain injury charity, Headway.

Chris Lee is still living with the consequences of the day he drank too much at a family party, aged 16, and stole his sister-in-law's car, the Manchester Evening News reported.

He lost control of the vehicle and it mounted a pavement and hit a lamp post.

Speaking to the newspaper, he said: "I was flung 100 feet out of the front window. Because I landed on my face, I damaged my brain as well as breaking every bone in my neck and head."

After 12 years the damage to his bones was fully repaired but he is still unable to work due to permanent brain damage, according to the newspaper.

He now helps Headway, which provides a support network to people suffering from the effects of brain injury and their families.

Mr Lee also helps the road safety charity, Brake, raising awareness of the dangers of drink driving.
