Brain injured boxer joins Mike Tyson on tour

Boxer Michael Watson, whose career was ended by a brain injury, will be chatting to boxing fans in Essex alongside Mike Tyson this weekend.

Former heavyweight world champion Tim Witherspoon, who famously beat Frank Bruno during his first world title fight, will also be present at the Five Lakes Golf and Country Club in Tolleshunt Knights, on Saturday as part of Tyson's Come Back to the Fans tour, the Daily Gazette reported.

British boxer Michael Watson sustained a near-fatal brain injury in a World Boxing Organisation (WBO) super-middleweight title fight against Chris Eubank in September 1991.

The fight was ended in the 12th round by referee, Roy Francis. Watson collapsed a few seconds later and was taken to hospital for emergency surgery to remove a blood clot from the surface of his brain.

Over the last 18 years the boxer has made great steps towards recovery and in 2003 he completed the London marathon in six days.
