Bingo players raise money for brain injury charity

A Gala Coral team has scaled the heights of Mount Everest to raise money for a charity which helps to care for people with brain injury.

The team of over 20 Gala Bingo employees trekked 75 miles and ascended 2,700 metres to Everest Base Camp, where they played the highest ever game of bingo.

Gala Bingo recently launched a fundraising Everest game to support the team.

Starting on August 27th the game ran run for eight weeks and ten per cent of tickets went towards the fundraising total.

The Everest trek is just one of a number of ongoing initiatives by Gala Coral Group, which aims to raise £1 million by 2010 for the charity Sue Ryder Care.

Sue Ryder Care provides expert and compassionate care to people living with conditions including brain injury, cancer, multiple sclerosis, stroke and Huntington's Disease.

Paul Woodward, chief executive of Sue Ryder Care, said: "I want to say a massive thank you and congratulations to the Gala Coral Everest Base Camp trekkers."

"This is a truly fantastic endeavour - firstly in completing the trek but also in the tremendous amount of money that has been raised," he added.
