'Bedside vigil' for musician with brain injury

A bedside vigil is being held for a famous guitarist who has suffered a potentially life-threatening brain injury.

Previously part of successful band Texas, which shot to fame in the 1990s with songs such as Halo and Say What You Want, Ally McErlaine collapsed last Thursday afternoon due to an aneurysm, the Sun relayed.

The 41-year-old is in hospital and ex-band mates Sharleen Spiteri and Eddie Campbell are there by his side.

Group manager Rab Andrew told the newspaper: "This has come as a huge shock. I saw Ally just last week and he was fine. Sharleen is very upset."

Recent research on ruptured brain aneurysms was published last month in the online version of Radiology.

Lead author Dr Olli Tshtinen, assistant professor of radiology at Tampere University Hospital in Finland, said a study showed stent-assisted coil embolisation to be a "feasible treatment" for ruptured aneurysms considered difficult to treat via balloon-assisted embolisation or surgery.
