Acquired brain injury patients in the Worcestershire area may have to contribute to their own rehabilitation as a result of funding cuts, it has emerged.
The Acquired Brain Injury programme, which caters for 30 students based at the Malvern campus of South Worcestershire College, is facing a shortfall in its budget, reports the Malvern Gazette.
It states that the newly formed Skills Funding Agency - formerly the Learning and Skills Council - is implementing a funding cut at the specialist facility.
"The government body had intended to slash funding to just £140,000 but later agreed to provide another £40,000 for the 2010/11 academic year," the newspaper revealed.
Course leader Alison O'Neill said that the level of education offered there could be seriously affected by the decision, it added.
In other news, an expert has warned that brain injury patients in the north Lincolnshire area may be receiving sub-standard care.
The Scunthorpe Telegraph reported that Dr Abayomi Salawai believes the type of equipment on offer and the procedures in place could be improved.
