The American Occupational Therapy Association Endorses the NESS Hand Rehabilitation System from Bioness Inc.

Bioness Inc. announced today that the NESS H200 Hand Rehabilitation System received the official endorsement of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).

The NESS H200 is an advanced hand rehabilitation system designed to use mild Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) to improve hand function and promote motor recovery in some patients who have lost function of their upper extremity following injury to the central nervous system, such as stroke, traumatic brain injury or spinal cord injury. The product, designed to be used in a rehabilitation setting and at home, may reduce spasticity, prevent muscle atrophy, reduce pain or muscle spasms, reeducate muscles and improve hand activity or range of motion.

AOTA’s Endorsement Committee and outside expert advisors reviewed the NESS H200 and corresponding clinical research results from peer-reviewed scientific publications before issuing the endorsement. The decision by the Committee highlights the significant potential clinical role of the NESS H200 in occupational therapy to restore lost function in patients with partial upper extremity paralysis.

“We are honored that the NESS H200 has been chosen as one of only two active endorsements by the American Occupational Therapy Association,” said Yitzhak Zilberman, President & CEO of Bioness Inc. “This endorsement further validates the benefits of occupational therapists using our technology to help restore hand function and, in turn, enhance the quality-of-life of patients recovering from stroke and other neurological conditions.”

The NESS H200’s award-winning design and easy-to-use interface enables occupational therapists to incorporate the benefits of FES therapy into the treatment plans of their neurologically-impaired patients. The system enables patients to retrain their paretic limbs by allowing them to carry out simple task-related training exercises and routines that require hand and arm function.

Today at the AOTA Annual Meeting in Long Beach, California, the benefits of the NESS H200 in stroke patients were presented in a case series titled, “New Therapy Interface: A Case Series of Telerehabilitation and Functional Electrical Stimulation.”
