Our client began work in the shipyards in 1955 as an apprentice engineer at the age of 17, fitting the engines into ships. Lagers were working above him and the asbestos would fall down on him all day. He had no protective clothing or equipment issued.

He was diagnosed with mesothelioma in January 2006, and underwent a course of chemotherapy.
