Amputation case study 2

Andrew

Andrew was joining the M4 motorway on his motorcycle when he was forced to swerve to avoid another motorist. He crashed into the central reservation and traumatically amputated his right arm. He was immediately taken to hospital where he remained for several weeks whilst he underwent several operations.

Prior to the accident, Andrew was a wood machinist and supported a family of three. We were contacted by Andrew as he felt that that he had nowhere to turn to for advice. He could see no future and had no belief that he would be able to support his family as he had done in the past.

Our legal team immediately began to work in partnership with his employers to ensure that Andrew could be retained in their employment.

Our funding allowed us to purchase state of the art equipment for the employer, to allow Andrew to be redeployed into a desk role. We placed software in Andrew's office that allowed him to control his computer with gaze direction tracking software to ensure that he could complete his job as well as all other members of staff. The technology we provided was at no cost to Andrew or his employers.

We also purchased a state of the art prosthetic and put in place a programme of rehabilitation to support Andrew in the long-term.

Andrew is progressing well in his new career. His new work environment has allowed him to gain experience in areas such as office management and IT systems. He has also achieved his main goal of continuing to support his family.

If you or a loved one has been affected by amputation, please call us on 0800 61 66 81 , or contact us using the details at the top left of this page.

What our clients say about us...

"Often the public perceives lawyers in a negative way, but it would be interesting to see if they kept this view after seeing the impact you have on peoples lives. I can honestly say that I did not understand the breadth of service you offer. I hope others in a situation such ours, others take the time to speak to you to find out how you can help."
