Not all injuries to the spine are associated with injury to the spinal cord itself. Some of these fractures may require only immobilisation, such as a rigid collar for cervical spine fractures or some type of brace or body jacket for fractures lower in the spine.
Even if the bones and ligaments are not damaged, the muscles and other soft tissues of the neck may sustain injury.
